Custom Solutions

All of our installations are customized for the best reception. The installation depends on many factors, such as house height, balcony direction, elevation, customer's TV model, etc. We thoroughly analyze each customer's setup on a case by case basis to provide the best solution possible. Please fill out this form for exact quotation for your home.

We will select an appopriate antenna type and model, receiver (if needed) and mounting solution for the antenna. After that we will install and fully tune up the setup

Package examples:

1. Typical complete ChannelMaster 4228 (or equivalent 8-bay antenna) outdoor setup.

This setup includes the following:

  • Latest (5th) generation OTA ATSC receiver (i.e. Samsung DTB-H260F) with all necessary cables (component or HDMI and optical).
  • Antenna - Channel Master 4228
  • Mounting system: depending on customer requirements, either chimney-mount, wall J-mount, or tripod.
  • Channel Master remote controlled rotor.
  • All necessary cables (coaxial RG6, rotor power cable, etc.)
  • Grounding assembly
  • Labour (installation, setup and tune up)
Notes:
  1.  Depending on the location, the antenna may be replaced with either smaller 4-bay ChannelMaster 4221 or directional Yagi antenna.
  2. If the cable length between antenna and the TV is longer than 50’ or if customer uses multiple TV sets, addition of the preamplifier may be needed for the setup. We carry preamplifiers with various gains to match different setups.
  3. If the customer’s TV already has built-in OTA ATSC tuner, then stand-alone receiver is not needed.

2. Typical complete condominium balcony setup with ChannelMaster 4221 (or equivalent 4-bay) antenna.

This setup includes the following:

  •  Latest (5th) generation OTA ATSC receiver (i.e. Samsung DTB-H260F) with all necessary cables (component or HDMI and optical).
  • Antenna - Channel Master 4221
  • Tripod - 3' or 5'
  • All necessary cables (coaxial RG6, rotor power cable, etc.)
  • Grounding assembly
  • Labour (installation, setup and tune up)
Notes:
  1. If the customer’s condominium does not allow mounting of the antennas to the outside walls or balcony, we can mount the tripod on a floor-style plywood sheet (please see a photograph of such setup in our ‘Testimonials’ page (link goes here).
  2. If the customer’s TV already has built-in OTA ATSC tuner, then stand-alone receiver is not needed

As previously mentioned, the above setups are just typical examples of what we can install. Every Optimist Electronics antenna setup is customized to fit specific customer’s needs (including selection of antenna, mounting type, installation of pre-amplifier and/or rotor, etc.)

Optimist Electronics also offers custom solutions include stackable and highly direction antennas.

Stackable antennas are useful if the customer is positioned in such location, where two antennas are required to receive signals from two separate broadcast locations. Good examples will be Toronto (CN Tower and First National Place) and Buffalo. Although most people are able to receive signals from both broadcast location using a single antenna (such as 4-bay ChannelMaster 4221), some people may need instead two directional Yagi antennas, each pointed in a different direction.

We also provide highly directional Yagi antennas for people, who are located far from broadcast locations. These antennas may not be suitable for people who live close to the broadcast towers, but they work much better for people in "deep fringe" areas.

Notes

When to use pre-amplifier

Contrary to many false beliefs and statements, pre-amplifier will not help in most cases if the customer has poor reception. Pre-amplifier is required to amplify a signal right after it is received by the antenna. This amplified signal is needed if:

  1. The customer has long cable run between your antenna (generally, longer than 50 feet / ~15 meters).
  2. The customer's signal is being split to more than one TV.

Importance of grounding

Optimist Electronics is required and will properly ground every antenna assembly. Grounding the antenna tower is very important due to possibility of lightning strikes damaging the electronics. Since the antenna is usually installed on the roof of customer's house, it becomes the highest point of the house. Optimist Electronics will properly ground the antenna assembly and the coaxial cable to eliminate the possibility of lightning strike damaging customer's HDTV equipment.
